Sun, Sand & Surf

In July School Holidays 2010, our little family headed off to have a grand old adventure at the paradise that is Ningaloo Reef.  Our holiday companions were Damian and Crystall Posthuma with their daughter Libbie, and Lester Zuidema with his lady Claire Taylor.

I must admit I was a little apprehensive about the trip.  Some of my worries were: Being so close to the water that Isaac could just run in all the time, campfires, THE DRIVE, the boat, Ivy's feeds, both kids sleeping, the weather, to name a few.  Aran and I had a big talk before we went nad tried to dispel some of these fears with action plans if things were to become undesirable.  This made me feel better.

Then a group of friends came back from Ningaloo before we left to go there and didnt have the best time.  Problems with flooded tracks, animals on the road, bad weather and other things made for not the best holiday.  Made me think, hmmm are we doing the right thing?

However I can happily say that we had a fantastic trip up. After a small delay getting going we hit the road and had a great trip. Ivy was great with her feeds and Isaac slept pretty much the whole way.  It was beautiful when we got there and we were so excited!  The weather when we were there was fantastic. We had one night when a front came through bringing gale force winds with it. A bit scary, but it was fine. We had a great camper trailer so we were very secure.  We had a few adventures through the night though, helping our fellow campers pull down a few things!  The front brought a few storm tides with it the next morning, but a precautionary trench dispelled any fears we had of getting our gear wet.  We had about an hour of rain during one night, but that was all we saw of the wet stuff!  The last few days were especially magic, bringing flat as a tack seas.

We decided to leave Ningaloo in the afternoon rather than the following morning so that the kids would sleep during the night allowing an easier trip.  Good decision - they were great and we made it home in record time after only stopping at Carnarvon and Geraldton.  We got home tired but happy, ready for a sleep.  But of course Isaac had had nothing but sleep so he was hyper as - oh well, save the sleep for the next night! Was quite funny to see him so happy to be home.  All in all we had a fantastic holiday - and after a few days of cleaning up we will be back to normal (except with super tans!)
Now I need a holiday from all that washing....

Here are some photos from our trip.  They are in order of start to finish, except I can't recall which days were which so they sort of just run into eachother. Enjoy!

Here is our rig - waiting at a camping store to get a few last bits and bobs. We hired the camper trailer from Aussie All-Trails.

At long last - the turn off to Ningaloo. Let down the tyres!

The first sunset. Beautiful!

What our little smiley darling thought of Ningaloo!

First things first - Isaac hops in the boat!

Aran - 'home' at long last - enjoying some breakfast.

Our camp.

All our camps. Lester and Claire to the far left, Damo and Crystall next to them and then us.

Isaac.

Isaac and I went down to the water to have some fun making sand castles and other exciting things.

Here is our re-creation of '5 little ducks'.

Everytime a duck 'didn't come back' Isaac got to smash one. Great fun Mum!
'Twinkle Twinkle'. See the star up above the world? Isaac also happily informed me where Nana lives.

The ladies.

Hello Libbie! I like your hair!

Aran in his element.

The first catch of the holidays - A nice big squid! Lunch for sure...

Definitely a yummy lunch. Thought I'd try a bit of Master Chef action - Delicious!

Time for a fish with Mum...

...While Dad chills with Ivy.

Isaac's fave person of the holiday - Claire!

Smooch!

Mum and Zac hit the sand again - this time to make his favourite animal - a croc-croc!

Time for a photo shoot..

I'm riding the croc Mum!

Oopsy... fell off!

Isaac and Mummy.
Definitely his father's son. Loves the boat and insists on driving!

When not in the dinghy - his little inflatable boat will do!

Off to get some water...

While we were in Ningaloo Isaac celebrated his 2nd birthday! Wow, Daddy reckons you can't get better than that. Claire was an absolute darling and her and Lester offered to make his birthday cake in the camp oven.  It was a lovely lemon cake - delicious!

Libbie

Isaac bombed... He had great day sleeps.

Bath time! Love this photo - he looks so cheeky!

I tried to get Isaac to pose with his number 2 candle - however he decided it would taste good and tried to lick it!

Shllurrrp!

The end product!

Happy Birthday time! Daddy did the honours.

Hip Hip Hooray!

It tastes good methinks!

Another day's catch.

Walkies with Mum.

Cheese!

Classic shot.

Bye Mum! Off in the boat again!

I went fishing off the beach... Caught a few flounder ( 2 with one cast - very proud!) and a Dart.

Ivy loves holidays!

Claire making some 'yum yums'! Scones with jam and cream for around the campfire... so good!

Went to Coral Bay on the windy day. Having some lunch at the pub.

After the gale force windy night we had some storm tides...

So the boys got out their shovels and dug a trench just in case... you can see how close the water got...

'Dig, Daddy, Dig!'

Mother and Son

What holidays means for me... Some sun and a book!

More smiles from our little princess..

Lester kindly took some photos of me with my little girl.

So I took a photo of him with his spangled emperor - caught with a squid jig!

Lester has it sussed - Claire does the filleting!

Another day's catch. The shark was for Isaac.

Little angel!

Another stunning sunset.

Best friends. It warmed my heart to see these two together.
Aran loves having Isaac around, misses him when he's not around... likewise Isaac is Aran's little shadow, having to do what Aran's doing.

Hi Mummy!

Can we go fishing now?

Off we go again!

Big smiles for mum.

What a muffin!

Our 2 precious blessings.

Isaac hopped in this tub, said 'boat mum' and proceeded to pretend to fish! Was so cute.

This photo reminds me of Kristian.

I tried to get tricky with the sun...

Last day - mum's turn to take the boat out...

Push us off dad..

Vroom Vroom

All packed up and ready to go... a final photo with Claire...

See you again Ningaloo!

We are very thankful to have experienced such a wonderful holiday with our 2 beautiful children.  Its great to have this opportunity to make so many special memories as a family.  We will surely be back.
